Joanne Kassimir, OTR/L, CHT is a 1979 graduate of the Temple University Occupational Therapy program. She became a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT), in 1991, specializing in the evaluation and treatment of the hand and upper extremity and custom splint/orthotic fabrication. She loves spending the day with her patients of all ages and mentoring students and OTs that want to specialize in hand therapy. Joanne has worked in acute care and outpatient rehabilitation settings including her own successful hand therapy private practices; Kassimir Hand Therapy, OT, PLLC and Long Island Hand Rehabilitation, PC on Long Island, NY.
In the 1980’s she was the NYSOTA Legislative Coordinator and has lobbied in Albany, NY and Washington, DC for improved patient insurance coverage and public awareness of occupational therapy. Joanne aught a Hand Therapy Seminar Master’s class at Touro College, for 10 years and she has been a product consultant for various therapy exercise devices throughout her career.
Looking for a new adventure Joanne and her husband Andy Goldberg moved to Havre de Grace, MD in 2020. She developed a new hand therapy practice in a local OT/PT therapy office, and she works PRN at Upper Chesapeake Hospital in Bel Air. Now Joanne is spreading her wings again and is starting up the hand therapy program at the new Ortho MD office in Abingdon.
Joanne has two grown daughters; one is an Occupational Therapist and the other a Speech and Language Pathologist. Joanne enjoys kayaking and fishing, exercising, yoga, boating, dancing,singing barbershop a cappella, traveling, and spending time with her family, especially her three grandchildren.
Quality patient care is Joanne’s primary goal, and she is excited to become part of the Ortho Maryland family of health professionals and to finally work in the same state and company as her brother Gary.
Joanne is an active/charter member of the American Society of Hand Therapists, since 1984 and
the Maryland Occupational Therapy Association, since 2019.
