Drs. Larry Becker and Jerome Reichmister Celebrate With Continued Treatment of Orthopaedic Patients Throughout Baltimore

OrthoMaryland, one of Baltimore’s preeminent orthopaedic practices, announced on July 1, 2009 that Drs. Larry Becker and Jerome Reichmister have reached the milestone of forty years in practice together.  The practice of orthopaedics is both profession and passion for Dr. Reichmister and Dr. Becker.  A rare combination maintained over decades of healthcare transformation.  The two renowned surgeons specialize in sports medicine, knee and shoulder diagnosis and treatment; and arthroscopy procedures.

To celebrate this milestone event, Drs. Becker and Reichmister will be honored at several luncheons on Monday, July 13 at all three OrthoMaryland offices located on Quarry Lake, Park Centre Court in Owings Mills, and on the campus of GBMC.

The physicians joined forces in 1969 as young associates in an existing orthopaedic practice in Baltimore City. Soon thereafter they were admitted as partners to a practice, which is now known as OrthoMaryland.  Their similar philosophies and medical values which focus on comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of patients is what have driven their professional relationship for four decades.

Dr. Becker has always been on the leading-edge of treatment, having performed the first arthroscopic surgery in Maryland, and one of the first physicians to perform viscosupplementation injections in the state of Maryland.

Dr. Reichmister is as committed to orthopaedics and the practice of medicine as he has been to the greater Baltimore medical community.  Dr. Reichmister is a past president of the Maryland Orthopedic Association; past chairman of board of Sinai Hospital; and holds appointments at John Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland School of Medicine.  Dr. Reichmister currently serves as the chairman of the department of orthopedics at Sinai Hospital, a position he has held since 1990.

The doctors also share a common desire to teach and guide medical students and residents who are the future of orthopaedics.

“It has been an incredible experience to be a participant in the evolution of orthopaedic medicine over the past four decades,” Said Dr. Larry Becker.  “Together, Jerry and I have treated generations of patients and it is extremely rewarding to help parents, children and grandchildren resume normal physical activity after suffering from an injury.”

His sentiments were echoed by Dr. Reichmister. “I am lucky to have been able to work alongside my friend and partner, Larry Becker, for the past forty years.  We have been fortunate to play an integral role in the growth of OrthoMaryland into one of the largest orthopaedic practices in the state of Maryland, and together, I hope we can continue to make a difference in our patients’ lives.”
