OrthoMaryland Announces Revamped Scheduling Process to Get Patients Seen Faster

Baltimore, MD - OrthoMaryland is pleased to announce the completion of a process to totally transform its scheduling and appointment practices. The new scheduling process is designed to get patients seen faster. For those patients who have acute pain or an emergency, our goal is to get them seen by one of our physicians within 24 hours.

"Transforming the scheduling system may seem very simple. But in fact it was a complete overhaul of everything that evolved as the practice grew," said OrthoMaryland CEO Heidi Mattingly.

The new appointment process incorporates pre-set blocks of time set aside for emergencies across all three OrthoMaryland locations, including Owings Mills, Towson, and Quarry Lake. The new process gives more authority and flexibility to OrthoMaryland’s Patient Care Specialists and makes more efficient use of physicians’ time and ensure more patients are seen when they need to be.

"We wanted to place the patient’s needs at the center of the process every step of the way. As one of Maryland’s oldest and largest private orthopaedic practices, many of our systems have evolved ad-hoc in response to the particular needs of the time. The new system is a win-win for everyone."

In response to the economic recession and the fast pace of change in healthcare, OrthoMaryland has embarked on a multi-step strategic planning process to ensure the very best patient experience and satisfaction. The transformation in the scheduling system is the first step in that process. In the coming months, OrthoMaryland will be examining other aspects of care, from the paperwork a patient fills out, to the visit with the physician itself, to the rehabilitation and follow-up process.
