Jon D. Koman, MD

A former assistant team physician for the Baltimore Orioles, Dr. Koman's interest in orthopaedic sports medicine stems from his experiences as a Division I college athlete. "Sports medicine was a natural choice for me. It combines my interest in orthopaedic medicine and love of sports perfectly," he explains. Following a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Wayne State University/the Detroit Medical Center at Grace Hospital, Dr. Koman completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Virginia. He joined OrthoMaryland in 2001.

Dr. Koman has co-authored research papers for several prestigious medical journals, including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. In 2003, he co-wrote a chapter review for the second edition of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine: Principles and Practice.

Dr. Koman works with local collegiate and high school sports teams and has appeared as a sports medicine and injury expert on various sports radio talk shows.
