Benjamin N. Carr, III, MD
Dr. Carr specializes in reconstructive spine and general orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Carr joined Ortho Maryland in 2007. His interests include degenerative disorders of cervical and lumbar spine. He has a particular practice focus that involves posterior cervical spinal procedures. In addition to managing non-operative and operative spinal conditions, Dr. Carr maintains a busy clinical practice caring for general orthopaedic disorders.
Dr. Carr completed his fellowship in reconstructive spine surgery at Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland under the direction of renowned orthopaedic surgeon John J. Carbone, M.D. He completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn. He received his bachelor's of science degree in both chemistry and biology from Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. He is a member of the North American Spine Society(NASS), American Medical Association (AMA), and past member of the National Medical Association (NMA), and the American Chemical Society (ACS).
Upon his graduation from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Dr. Carr was awarded the prestigious Kaufman Prize in Medicine, presented each year to a graduating medical student who displays outstanding humaneness, dedication and unselfish service in the study and practice of medicine. He is also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, Vanderbilt University's honor medical society. While at Roger Williams University, he was elected a member of the Alpha Chi honor society.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Carr's major personal interests center on spending time with his family and friends. In addition, he enjoys multiple sports, including, football, golf, and basketball. He is also a movie and music aficionado. Dr. Carr is known for injecting his playful sense of humor into both his professional and personal life. His greatest joy in life is bringing a smile to the faces of his patients, family, friends, and professional colleagues.
